Monochrome Vintage Photos

Retracing the steps of renowned Auckland photographer, Henry Winkelmann (1860-1931), I retook photos of the same buildings, from the same angle, within their new surroundings. Original photos are from the Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections 1-W0000.

“I was amazed at how many of the heritage buildings had been modified over the last hundred years or so. Adding extra floors seemed popular, however some only had the facade remaining, and in one case the entire western half of the building had been removed to widen a street.”
